THE POWER OF URSUS.Ursus Americanus, the black bear, has held an esteemed position among the native cultures of North America for eons. Considered to be a highly desired ally and spirit helper because of its fearless power, it was believed that the power of the Great Spirit lived through this animal. Some tribes prayed for medicine dreams that would show Bear to be their guide. Others tribes felt the bear held such powerful medicine they would only hunt them to keep from starving. During the winter bears spend several months sleeping in dens without eating, similar to hibernation. The more fat their bodies have stored up, the deeper the sleep. The Bear teaches us how to go within and find the resources necessary for our personal survival, to be self-reliant and independent. There is only one animal that a bear fears: another bear. But even though the bear is the most powerful animal in the wilds, it never abuses that power. If we’re listening, the bear can also teach us about discretion, showing us how to make choices from a position of power, while exercising restraint. Many native cultures paid homage to the Bear by adorning themselves with the symbols of its power: their teeth and claws have marked succesful and powerful men for millennia. Now you, too, can feel the power of the Bear in your own genuine Black Bear jewelry from Ursus, available exclusively here. |
